Most teachers are women.

- More than two-thirds of teachers are women throughout
the Five County Region.
- A slightly higher proportion of teachers are men in Los
Angeles Unified School District.
- We have looked at time-series data and found that the
ratios have not changed significantly in recent years.
While demographics vary
across the region, most teachers are Anglos.

- More than two-thirds of the region's teachers are
Anglos.
- Region-wide, about 18% of teachers are Latinos,
about 6% are Black, about 7% are Asian/Pacific Islander,
less than 1% are American Indian, and about 3% of
teachers report being multi-racial or of some other
race.
- The race and/or ethnicity of teachers vary widely
across the region, with greater proportions of minority
teachers in Los Angeles County and Los Angeles Unified
School District.
- More than 76% of teachers outside of LA county are
Anglos.
Patterns of teacher race
and ethnicity differ markedly from patterns in the general
population and enrolled students.
