poverty continues to grow.

- The number of poor students has grown steadily
throughout the region since 1990. In the last year,
however, Los Angeles County has shown a slight decline in
the number of poor students.
- The region's schools must educate over 765,000 more poor
children than in 1990.

who are poor has leveled off since the mid-1990s.

- During the early 1990s recession, the proportion of
students who were poor grew rapidly.
- Though the number of poor students continued
to grow even after the recession ended, the proportion
of students who are poor stabilized.
