Enrollment has grown steadily over the last decade.

  • Enrollment in the Five County Region now exceeds 3 million students.
  • More than 2/3 of a million more students have entered the system since 1993.
  • Enrollment growth in Los Angeles Unified School District stagnated briefly in the early 1990s.
  • Enrollment in both Los Angeles County and Outside Los Angeles County (Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, and Orange) has grown steadily, though enrollment in the outlying counties has grown more quickly.

Private school growth does not match growth in public school enrollments.

  • Public school enrollment has increased by more than 600,000 since the 1993-1994 school year.
  • Private school enrollment grew by slightly less than 12,000, but in the past two years has declined to a level that is nearly the same as that of 1993-1994.
