The number of English learners continues to grow.

  • In the Five County Region, the number of English learners has increased more than 300,000 (almost 25%)  since 1990.
  • In recent years, the number of English learners in Los Angeles County has decreased.  However, the number has continued to increase in the area outside of Los Angeles County.

The proportion of English learners has stabilized.

  • In the Five County Region, the proportion of English learners is relatively stable at slightly under 30%.
  • In Los Angeles County, the proportion of English learners has dropped to 42%.
  • However, outside Los Angeles County, the proportion of English learners has grown to 24%.
