Academic Performance Indexes and
Teacher and School Characteristics
(2 Charts)
Schools with higher proportions of
fully credentialed teachers tend to have higher Academic Performance
Index scores.
(Chart 1 of 2)

- There are very few schools with less than 40% of teachers
who are fully credentialed, and because of small sample sizes, median
API scores for schools with less than 40% credentialed teachers are
erratic.
- For schools with 40% credentialed teachers or more, there is a
distinct relationship between the proportion of teachers who are fully
credentialed and the API score: a higher API score is obtained by
schools with a higher proportion of credentialed teachers.
Schools that are on traditional
calendars have higher Academic Performance Index scores.

- Median API scores are consistently 50-75 points higher in
traditional calendar schools than in year-round schools.
- The relationship between school calendar and median API score is
somewhat stronger in Los Angeles County.
